Training Courses

We offer a range of specialised courses tailored to meet your individual needs and to reach the standard that you want to. Our approach is focused on understanding and responding to what you require, providing effective and practical training in a relaxed environment.

Compulsory Basic Training

(CBT)

CBT

Compulsory basic training (CBT) is a course you usually have to take before you ride a moped or motorcycle on the road.

The training makes sure you can ride safely on your own while you practise for your full moped or motorcycle test.

CBT is not a test that you pass or fail, it is training that you complete and a certificate of completion will be issued on satisfactory completion of the training, as assessed by a DVSA authorised instructor.

After you’ve completed CBT, you can ride a:

  • moped if you’re 16 or over
  • motorcycle up to 125cc and with a power output of up to 11kW if you’re 17 or over

You must use L plates (L or D plates in Wales).

You must pass your full moped or motorcycle test within 2 years, or you have to either take CBT again or stop riding.

You can be fined up to £1,000 and get up to 6 penalty points for riding if you do not have a valid CBT certificate.

When you do not need to take CBT

You do not have to take CBT if you:

  • want to ride a moped (up to 50cc) and you passed your car driving test before 1 February 2001
  • want to ride a motorcycle and have a full moped licence from passing a moped test since 1 December 1990
  • have a full motorcycle licence for one category and want to upgrade to another
  • live and ride on some offshore islands
  • want to ride a trial e-scooter

Test Preparation

(AM/A1/A2/A licences)

Once you've completed the CBT, the next logical step in continuing training is to prepare for a DVSA test.

To do this, we will provide personalised training, delivered in 90 minute sessions, covering all of the requirements of the test.

To gain a motorcycle licence, you must pass two modules - commonly referred to as Mod1 and Mod2 tests.

Mod1 Test

This test lasts around 15 mins and is comprised of the following exercises

  • Operating the stand
  • Manually manoeuvring the motorcycle.
  • Riding a slalom and figure of eight.
  • A slow-speed ride
  • U-turn
  • Cornering
  • Controlled stop at a defined point
  • Emergency stop
  • Simulated hazard avoidance

Which licence you are entitled to is dependant on a number of factors - primarily your age and experience. For a full explanation of motorcycle categories and licences, please visit the DVSA website.

Post Test Training

Post-Test

It is common for riders to seek further training, having completed the DVSA test.

This may simply be to gain further confidence under the supervision of an instructor or because it's been sometime since the rider has actually ridden and a review of capability is requested for the rider's peace of mind.

Whatever the reason, we offer personalised training to meet the requirements of the client, focusing on any area of concern to ensure riders are save and confident on the road.
